Family Support
Pastoral care and support is one of our strengths and we have invested considerable resources in two Learning Mentors, a Pastoral Mentor and two Pastoral Learning Support Assistants and Family Link Worker to support the increasing social issues which impact on many of our children and their families. Our Pastoral Support Team members work in close collaboration with the Headteacher and Deputy Head Teachers to ensure our children thrive at school, develop positive self-esteem and, when necessary, receive appropriate additional support either in school or at home.
Our Family Link Worker liaises with families and external agencies where a need has been identified. Together they make a strong team and maintain excellent relationships with pupils, parents/carers and staff.
Amy McNamee, the Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENDCo), also supports two of our teaching assistants who look after the needs of our children with special educational needs (SEN). Amy is also Deputy Headteacher with responsibility for Inclusion.
We also offer additional support for children who do not have English as their first language.
Shirehampton Primary School is proud of the close links we have with Young Carers and Youth Links which provide support and guidance for any child who is a young carer. Both external agencies support our young carers and enable them to be emotionally stable as well as be fully involved in their own learning.
