School Closures & Severe Weather
At Shirehampton Primary School, our aim is always to remain open wherever it is safe to do so. We will only close the school in exceptional circumstances where the health and safety of pupils, staff or visitors could be at risk, or where it is not possible to operate the school safely.
How will I know if the school is closed?
If we need to close the school unexpectedly due to severe weather or another emergency, we will notify families as quickly as possible by:
- Sending a message via Arbor
- Posting an update on the school website
- Informing Bristol City Council, who will publish school closures on their website
We ask parents and carers to check these communication channels before travelling to school during periods of severe weather.
During Severe Weather
Please ensure your child comes to school dressed appropriately for the weather.
- During cold weather, children should bring a warm coat, suitable footwear and any other appropriate outdoor clothing.
- During hot weather, children should come to school wearing suitable clothing, have a named water bottle and apply sun cream before arriving at school. We also recommend that children bring a sun hat.
Where it is safe to do so, children will continue to enjoy outdoor learning and play. During periods of extreme weather, staff will adapt activities and routines as necessary to ensure pupils remain safe and comfortable.
Home-School Partnership
At Shirehampton Primary School, we believe that children achieve their very best when home and school work together. We value the strong partnership we have with our families and recognise that parents, carers and school staff all play an important role in supporting every child's learning, wellbeing and development.
Our Home-School Agreement sets out the shared expectations that help us create a safe, positive and successful learning environment for everyone. The agreement reflects our commitment to working together throughout your child's time at Shirehampton Primary School.
