At Shirehampton Primary School, our curriculum is designed to provide every child with a broad, balanced and ambitious education that prepares them for the next stage of their learning and for life beyond school.
We want our children to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to succeed. Our curriculum is shaped by the needs of our pupils and community and provides opportunities for children to explore, question, create and make meaningful connections in their learning.
Alongside academic achievement, we place great importance on children's personal, social and emotional development. We want our pupils to become curious, resilient and independent learners who are confident in themselves and respectful of others.

We believe that children's backgrounds or additional needs should not limit what they can achieve. Our curriculum is designed to provide all pupils with opportunities to experience success and develop a lifelong love of learning.
How Our Curriculum is Organised
Our curriculum begins in the Early Years Foundation Stage, where children develop the knowledge, skills and understanding that provide the foundations for future learning.
From Year 1 onwards, our curriculum is based on the National Curriculum and is carefully sequenced so that children's knowledge and skills build progressively as they move through the school.
Where appropriate, subjects are connected through meaningful themes and experiences, while ensuring that the important knowledge and skills within each individual subject are taught clearly.
Teachers regularly assess children's understanding and use this information to identify what children already know, address misconceptions and plan appropriate next steps.
An Inclusive Curriculum
At Shirehampton Primary School, we believe that our curriculum should be accessible and ambitious for every pupil.
Teachers adapt teaching, resources and learning opportunities to help remove barriers and enable pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to access and participate in the curriculum alongside their peers.
Support is tailored to individual needs and may include adaptations to teaching, additional resources, targeted support, pre-teaching, alternative ways of recording learning or specialist advice.
Our aim is not simply for children to access the curriculum, but for every child to participate, make progress and experience success.
