Our Governing Board
The Governing Board plays a vital role in the strategic leadership of Shirehampton Primary School. Working in partnership with the Headteacher and senior leaders, governors help to shape the school's vision and values, support continuous improvement, and ensure that every child receives the best possible education.
Governors are volunteers who bring a wide range of skills, knowledge and experience from different backgrounds. The Governing Board includes parent governors, staff governors, local authority governors and co-opted governors, each contributing their expertise to support the school and its community.
The Governing Board's key responsibilities are to:
- Set the school's strategic direction and vision.
- Hold school leaders to account for educational performance and pupil outcomes.
- Oversee the school's finances to ensure resources are used effectively.
- Monitor safeguarding, wellbeing and statutory responsibilities.
- Support and challenge school leaders to ensure the best outcomes for all pupils.
Our Governing Body meets regularly throughout the academic year, with additional detailed oversight of finance and resources undertaken by the Finance & Resources Committee
We are extremely grateful to all of our governors for giving their time, skills and commitment to support the continued success of Shirehampton Primary School.

Louise Vesely Shore MBEInterim Chair of Governors
Louise Vesely Shore MBE
Currently interim Chair of Governors, Chair of Finances & Resources Committee and nominated Governor for SEND, Pupil Premium and Safeguarding whilst new members are recruited to the governing body. I currently work for the Office for National Statistics, leading analytical projects focused on delivering local data and insights to inform policy and practice. I have previously spent 18 years working in law enforcement, providing specialist support and advice to police and partners across the UK. Through my work I have seen how important our early years are in shaping our futures, and I am proud to have the opportunity to support my local community in this way. -

Charlotte Harris
Member of the Finance & Resources Committee.I was born and brought up in NorthBristol and live locally with my young family.With a degree in journalism from Cardiff University, I have worked as a communications specialist for over a decade in roles within thepublic, private and third sectors.I believe all children should have the opportunity to reach their full potential. In my role as governor, I want to support Shirehampton Primary School to deliver its aims and vision, sothat young people in our community can thrive.

Nicky AtkinsonGovernor
Nicky Atkinson
Member of the Finance & Resources Committee and nominated governor for Children Looked After and Young Carers. I am Senior Business Consultant for a major Consultancy Firm. I have over 12 years of financial consultancy experience both in the Private and Public sector. I have a financial planning and IT software background,as well as project management skills to draw upon. I am also an official for England Hockey. I believe that every child has the right to the education that will help them thrive in their community. This is not always about getting A* - it can be about having empathy with their peers. Shirehampton Primary School strives to meet this goal and as aGovernor I want to be able support them in this goal.

Committees & Responsibilities
The Full Governing Body retains strategic oversight of the school and meets regularly throughout the academic year.
The Governing Body is supported by one standing committee:
Finance & Resources Committee
The Finance & Resources Committee provides detailed oversight of the school’s financial management, budget, staffing, premises and resources.
The committee reports back to the Full Governing Body, which retains overall responsibility and accountability for the strategic direction of the school.
Governors also take responsibility for monitoring particular areas of the school’s work. These link responsibilities enable governors to develop their understanding of key areas, meet with relevant staff and provide appropriate support and challenge to school leaders.

Become a Governor
Governors are volunteers who make an important contribution to the life and strategic direction of our school.
Our Governing Body includes people from a range of backgrounds, including parents, staff and members of the local and wider community. Governors do not need to be education professionals; a range of skills, experiences and perspectives strengthens the work of the Governing Body.
Being a governor provides an opportunity to contribute to the school community, develop new skills and help shape the future direction of Shirehampton Primary School.
