Keeping Children Safe
At Shirehampton Primary School, the safety and wellbeing of our children is our highest priority.
Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility. All staff receive regular safeguarding training and are expected to remain vigilant, recognise when a child may need help and take appropriate action.
We work closely with children, families and other professionals to ensure concerns are identified early and children receive the right support at the right time.

You can speak to a member of our Safeguarding Team or contact Bristol First Response:

First Response can provide advice and support where there are concerns about a child's safety or wellbeing.
Outside normal office hours, concerns can be reported to Bristol's Emergency Duty Team.
How We Keep Children Safe
Safeguarding is embedded throughout school life.
We help keep children safe through:

- We work in partnership with external agencies, including the police through Operation Encompass, to ensure children receive timely support when needed.

Children are taught in an age-appropriate way about healthy relationships, personal safety, consent, online safety and how to seek help if something worries them.
Early Help
Sometimes children and families need additional support before difficulties become more serious.
Early Help is about identifying needs as soon as possible and working together with families to find the right support.
This may involve support within school or working alongside other professionals and services.
If you feel your family would benefit from some additional help, please speak to a member of staff. Asking for help early can often prevent difficulties from becoming more challenging.
Prevent Duty
As part of our safeguarding responsibilities, the school has a duty to help protect children from the risk of radicalisation and extremism.
Staff are trained to recognise potential concerns and follow the school's safeguarding procedures where necessary.
Children are supported through the curriculum to develop respect for others, think critically, understand different viewpoints and stay safe.
Any concerns relating to radicalisation are treated as safeguarding concerns and reported to the Designated Safeguarding Lead.
Online Safety
Technology is an important part of children's lives and learning, and helping children use it safely and responsibly is an important part of our safeguarding work.
Online safety is taught throughout the curriculum and we work with families to help children understand how to:
